Remember the Milk

Week 3 is about Jott and Remember the Milk, both excellent tools. I can see how Remember the Milk would be helpful for library staff and of course helpful in life in general. I love the idea of Jott and can't wait to try it. Stef's blog post using Jott worked just fine and it seems like a great idea for those times when you need a reminder about something; it's the second best thing after having Internet on your phone. I've been playing around with lots of cool web 2.0 stuff shadowing the ref desk at the CIMC and their website is totally 2.0 with bookmarks fed from del.icio.us tags and such, it's great. I also just added Forecastfox to my Mozilla Firefox browser and my weather forecast now shows up on the lower task bar which is very handy.

Project Play Week 3

Feedreaders have become my favorite thing about Web 2.0. I really enjoy getting to read about what I'm interested in all in one place. Most of my favorite RSS feeds were mentioned in the Project Play Bloglines account but I'll mention a few of my favorites.

Pop Goes the Library is a good one and has a lot of good information about having fun in libraries.

A lot of authors write good blogs and one of my favorites is SnarkSpot, chick-lit author Jennifer Weiner's blog.

T. Tallent writes lots of blogs but my favorite is Yes To Know which is about "thoughts, ideas, options & actions for going a little deeper in libraries & life".

In the non-library world of blogs, I really like A List Of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago which is about all kinds of awesome stuff related to pop culture (my favorite subject). Also worth checking out is Daily Dose of Imagery which shows up beautifully in a feedreader, plus it's only one post a day which is nice.

Finally, Google Blog Search will set up an RSS feed for you and automatically do a search. I've found that this works best using people's names: athletes, celebrities, actors, etc. All blog posts containing a name will be sent to your feed reader without you having to continually search for the star you like. It's handy and saves time. If you go to the search page and do a search for a name, at the bottom of the results page will be the option to "Subscribe to a blog search feed for Anonymous in Google Reader". I think that it does only work with Google Reader but you if you have a Blogger account, you can use Google Reader with the same login information.
